Cherry Trees is a synth-bloomed reverie—an album built from texture, tone, and emotional undercurrent. Released in 2017, it marks a shift in my creative process: an exploration of songwriting that began not with guitar or lyrics, but with loops, beats, and self-crafted soundscapes. What emerged is a collection of dreamlike vignettes—songs that move like weather through memory, each one a flicker of light through leaves.
These tracks were sculpted from the ground up, layering synthetic rhythms, ambient pulses, and melodic fragments into cinematic textures. The guitar took a backseat; the voice became another instrument in the mix. The result is music that feels more like landscape than statement—evocative, shifting, and rooted in sensation.
Cherry Wave Borealis opens the album like a curtain rising on a surreal aurora, where nature’s quiet grandeur meets the emotional voltage of the unseen. I Remember the Waves recalls tides of memory with a hushed melancholy, a meditation on things that return in cycles—grief, joy, echoes. Cherbourg Nights draws from real time spent with my father in Normandy, capturing the bittersweet glow of remembered connection. The Chariot, inspired by the Tarot archetype, drives the listener forward with quiet propulsion, a journey through inner oppositions and toward balance.
Throughout the album, I found myself returning to recurring themes: the seasons of the heart, the passing of time, and the moments that stay with us long after they’ve gone. Cherry Trees became a space to process transience—not with despair, but with reverence. Like cherry blossoms, some feelings are most powerful because they don’t last.
This album exists in the space between ambient pop and experimental electronica, but its true genre is more emotional than musical. It’s for those nights when you're walking under unfamiliar stars, when memory flickers like an old film reel, or when you find yourself asking old questions in a new light.
