During the period when my generation was getting into grunge, I was diving into the country blues, absorbing the ghosts of American music. I toyed with cardboard guitars and sitting in as a drummer until finally I acquired a real silvertone tenor banjo, which I still own, some months before my daughter was born. Twenty five years later I am still making it all up as I go along.
