All on Midsummer’s day the rising changes endlessly
Count the time ‘til Summer’s gone and day is underground

Now the blade is turning green she struggles with the bonds that bind
Persephone released again and Winter gone to ground
Sun and dark this flower falls—the seed is mixed with alcohol
Somewhere in those fertile folds he doesn’t know what’s hit him

All on Midsummer’s day the rising …

Now the dog star rises high, sparkling in the velvet sky
Her swelling waters mirror the Moon—this fruit is growing sweet
Her friends have all gone into town, she strokes that belly’s tightening skin
He just thinks his luck is down and wonders if he loves her

All on Midsummer’s day the rising …

The air is cool, the Sun is low, there’s balance in the night and day
Persephone descends again and disappears below
Burn the ghost of Summer gone—she wakes at night and heeds the call
Breast in mouth and watch her grow—and it all begins again
