Dartmouth Lad from Strange Folk by Dave Bell

This song was inspired by my grandfather who grew up in the Devon naval port of Dartmouth, in the early 1900's, he was the eldest in a large family of kid's who went bootless except on Sundays, he left home early in life and ran away to sea , by becoming a cabin boy. He served as a steward on posh yachts and during world war 1 served on Hospital ships, he was torpedoed twice but never spoke of it between the wars he was on the trans Atlantic liners from Southampton to New York and back. Ending his working life as a head waiter a top Torquay Hotel.
