The drones that permeate Daniel Klag’s True Neutral are persistent and slow, but never stagnant or inert. These long, patient waves of sound that extend themselves over the body of the tracks in True Neutral seem, if anything, to be inhabited, teeming with quiet life and hidden secrets, pregnant with potential. Tracks like Hard Pass and True Neutral show a more kinetic and purpose-driven intentionality, but overall the album is unhurried and boldly restrained – one might even say neutral. Like in much of his previous work, True Neutral shows Klag dynamically manipulating stillness to create a kind of Schrödinger's region of sound where rest and movement seem to beautifully coexist.
