Rotary Demisphere by Darkduction

Here a dome was painted with an asymmetrical series of concentric circles and mounted on a spinning disk. When the machine is set in motion, the circles appear to pulsate toward the viewer. The copper ring around the dome’s circumference is engraved with words chosen for the way their sounds echo one another.

In Rotary Demisphere, Darkduction immerses us in a sonic universe where movement, repetition and perception play a central role. Inspired by Marcel Duchamp's kinetic work, this EP channels the essence of his famous rotating dome with asymmetrical concentric circles, transforming its visual effect into a deep, hypnotic and enveloping auditory experience.

Rotary Demisphere's sound is built on a minimalist foundation, where every element seems to be part of a constantly rotating gear. Dark, pulsating rhythms intertwine with subtle textures, generating cycles that evolve slowly, like a mechanism coming to life in the gloom. The structure of the tracks follows an almost ritualistic pattern, where repetition is not simply a resource, but the very axis of the sonic narrative, creating the illusion of a suspended time.

Just as Duchamp played with the perception of movement through light and mechanics, Darkduction uses shifting layers of sound to generate a similar effect on the auditory spectrum. The sounds seem to pulsate towards the listener, oscillating between the tangible and the illusory, provoking a sense of total immersion.
