Ulyssa by Cynthia Goosby

Nearly all of the poetry and music that would become this album were written and recorded in a one-month period between July 18 and August 15, 2023. Ulyssa weaves a narrative arc of love, grief, and resolve, largely through the lens of Greek mythology, with some other digressions peppered in (e.g. a healthy dose of backwoods floriography, a few indulgent comparisons to Humphrey Bogart, a blistering medical tango, etc.). There’s a little of everything in this one.

Clarinet-centric musician and writer. Currently a recluse in the backwoods of northern Wisconsin, she emerges to perform and teach, but spends her remaining time scaring neighborhood children with the sounds that waft from the turret of her Victorian manor.
