Fairy Tales from Pixelization by Cyborg Jeff

It's been a week since the idea of a multimedia project around Wallpapers arranged by my brother matured. I'm starting to see it as an opportunity to reconnect with the world of Demoscene, while this year the Inscene 2K1 was not organized in Belgium. Despite everything, connected to Teledisnet, the fast Internet of Liège, I can keep in touch with the communities of OJuice and Nectarine Radio ... I just have to succeed in paying the bills!

My brother's digital artwork titled "Fairy Tales" quickly took me a few years back, when I marveled at the 256-color graphics of Legend of Kyrandia, a PC adventure game developed by Westwood Studio in 1993.

For my part I had discovered this game at my neighbor Alain. He told himself that his sister's godmother wrote video game test reviews and therefore often brought back game disks, sometimes before they were released ... But basically, what did I know at that age from the release date of the games! In short, after playing Monkey Island and Maniac Mansian, Legend of Kyrandia was incredibly beautiful, with this forest to visit, the pretty gems to collect to solve the first puzzles.

For several years, the family PC only had a monochrome Hercules card, so it was impossible to bring Legend of Kyrandia home.

When the color arrived, I had to face the facts, playing on a floppy disk is one thing, but to avoid the chainsaw massacre when crossing the bridge, I will have to find something other than the cracks disk of my friend Xavier, ineffective with Legend of Kyrandia, so I had to find a photocopy of the game manual! Making a photocopy at that time is far from within the reach of the 15 year old kid that I was! So I would have kept this one safe, until the brother lent it to one of his friends ... I only got the last page ... In the meantime, I would have moved slowly in the adventure. After a year, my classmate Raphael will give me some tips to solve the riddle about the hotel and two more years later, I will manage to finish the game with my neighbor Jedd, a fan of the Kyrandia universe !

If I'm telling you this whole story, it's also because musically, I immediately fell under the spell and the poetry of the music of Legend of Kyrandia. Even though I'm quite happy with this more modern re-arrangement, there was something particularly enchanting about the sweet tones of my Adlib FM sound card. Brave nostalgic, I hope that my rewriting of the Timbermist Woods theme will make you want to play this game again !

No Youtube at that time to listen in loop to the music composed by Frank Klepacki, but all the same some deconstruction tools which then allowed me to transform the .XMI file into a standard MIDI format and then mill it into an .XM format.

This kind of mush then results in a file which can be edited in Sound Tracking format but which is absolutely not considered with this approach, it will take me a little longer than usual to achieve a few things. square enough that to be able to bring my personal touch to it by using a series of samples from my collection gathered mainly from my Roland E68 synth but also from Acumen, Orion, Allister Brimble, Andromeda, Drax, Basehead and Swartehmonia.
