Smoking Tongues from Immoral Emporium by Curse Mackey
I wrote this song as the final piece of the new album. The initial intent was to write the opposite of an ambient noise piece which I had done on previous albums.
I wanted to speak to the listener directly, more than I have done in the past. The reason was that I’ve never felt more vulnerable within a song before. I imagine we all have that moment where we are in the middle of all kinds of activity or excitement, we think we know what’s up, but then something happens, things come crashing down, and all of a sudden you are just alone and uncertainty, self-doubt, fear ensues. I empathize with this feeling and again, our experiences, “our scars like constellations” get us through these moments until we can again be seduced by love and the vast potential that exists in the world even on our darkest days. And because of this dialog with the listener I felt the song would be best served as the opener, where the vulnerability and the concerns for our collective well-being are put in front of the very intense and personal songs that will follow.
