Baetylus (also Baetyl, Bethel or Betyl, from Semitic bet el, "house of god") refers to sacred stones that were supposedly endowed with life. According to ancient sources, these stones were actually meteorites, but they were the object of worship, and were dedicated to the gods. The Book of Genesis, in the Bible, also mentions a Bethel in the story of Jacob's Ladder.

Jérôme Poret has been scavenging abandoned sounds from industrial wastelands, public areas as well as phonography for many years, the way a rag-and-bone man would do. With the gathered material, he builds narratives–halfway between sound documents and musical fiction–on the aggregates of the 20th century.
