The Chuspas were made by knitters of the “feria artesanal” in El Alto. Made partially by machine, partially by hand of synthetic materials.
A chuspa (which is Quechua for bag) is a pouch that is used to carry coca and cocoa leaves, used primarily in the Andean region of South America. Textiles are very important to the people in Andean South America, since it is a vital piece of culture, knowledge and expression which has prevailed since ancient times.
Thank you to Elvira Espejo Ayca for helping to coordinate this collaboration. Gracias hermana!
