Corona, CA circa 2002, The Showcase Theater off of Main St. was the all ages mecca of live music, social groups and the pre-social media exchange of ideas and fights. Scenester is a tribute to that time, not only aesthetically through a straightforward emo rock song, but lyrically reflecting a supposed romance turned sour. An ode to bleached hair, mohawks, cheap beer, underage frivolity and the glory and heartache of teenage angst in suburban hell, Scenester highlights a promising past through the scope of Southern California youth, looking for personal vindication amidst tumult and tribulation. The song is cathartic, morose and uplifting at the same time, the verse relies on personal and finite moments and struggles that can be universally applied to anyone, whereas the chorus takes on a larger questioning of the societal structure in which these narratives and lives live, where the story is propelled by the helpless feeling of being a product of exterior environments. Scenester is the 3rd single release of the “Por Vida” by Castle Pines.
