Difficult Terrain by Conflicted Operator
Dark spaces composed of ambient drones is what this project focused on. Each track on this project was recorded in two live sessions involving sounds generated from modular and fixed synthesizers, as well as field recordings. The first session was recorded directly to cassette tape over an FM receiver. The second session played back the cassette recording, layering in additional synthesizer tracks at full fidelity. The combination of tape and non-tape sources added diverse textures and some surprises due to the age of the tape and hardware in use.

Conflicted Operator is a solo experimental synth project involving studio sessions and improvised live streams.
The resulting sounds are not constrained to any particular genre and range from ambient drone textures, to driving techno, and beyond.
Conflicted Operator draws from their techno (phaXis) and freeform hardcore (phosphor) alter egos, exploring new unexplored sonic landscapes.
