“We hadn’t planned on FWD being like a debut song, but once we played the record back, we knew it was for immediate release. Kev sent the beat while I was on my way out for a creative trip we took out to the desert in May, 2022. I wrote what was in my head and recorded soon as i got there, didn’t even unpack. The radio was wall-to-wall coverage of the Uvalde mass shooting at the time, and the Roe v. Wade overturn opinion had already leaked, adding to the madness. With all of that weighing in, the intro made me think of skipping ahead — and when it comes to meaningful solutions, it’s like we can’t move fast enough. So it was no question, beat was fire, message was urgent, we had to put it out...”
