Highway Home by Clive John

The 2020 lockdown still feels like a strange dream. I've yet to fully accept it as reality. But with my show off the road I have, like many, been given the gift of time. So I have made good on a promise I made to myself years ago... to get back to songwriting, and to release a Folk/Country album based on the Johnny Cash 'American Recordings'.

With the invaluable help of bandmate Richard Murray, production began one afternoon in my living room, and continued over the course of several days. The songs then made their way to Richard's living room for mixing, mastering and some finishing touches.

These songs are real, raw, and timeless. Fine storytelling against a simple musical backdrop with all the cowboys, lovers, trains, guns and whiskey you would expect from a Cash album. I've always been drawn to this material and I felt this would be a good oppertunity to put some down in a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere with few glasses of wine. The experience is summed up in my new song 'Every Cloud', which will hopefully make a worthy stable-mate among these enduring classics.

So, here it is... my silver lining. Highway Home. I hope it keeps you good company in these trying times and beyond.
