This album hit different for us. "Hourglass Rhyme" came from those late-night cipher sessions when we realized how much we were forgetting as fast as we were learning. You ever get that feeling? Like you're trying to catch water with your hands but it keeps slipping through? That's what sparked this whole project.

We transformed the Forge into the "Hourglass Arena" for these sessions – chalk dust everywhere, the Cipherboard spinning with rhyme tiles while rival Scholar Crews battled against the clock. Tag was sketching memory patterns faster than Lore could spit them, and Rook's metaphors had everyone scrambling to keep up before they faded.

Sonically, we went deep on the time theme – sampled actual classroom bells, metronomes, ticking clocks, even recorded ourselves tapping pencils nervously before exams. That anxious energy when you're trying to lock down facts before they slip away? We bottled that feeling in tracks like "Countdown Glyphs" and "Cipherboard Frenzy."

The beats bounce between boom bap backbone and those jazz-inflected clockwork rhythms we've been experimenting with lately. We wanted that tension between structure and chaos – just like your brain trying to organize information when you're cramming.

You'll notice how hooks repeat and cycle back – that's intentional. We built mnemonic patterns into the actual song structures. By the time you hit "Recall Anthem," those patterns start making sense, just like when studying finally clicks.

Real talk though – this album got personal. During recording, my little cousin failed a big test he'd studied hard for. Watching him struggle with memory made us think about how learning isn't just about facts – it's emotional. That's why "Glass Hands" hits so hard midway through the album.

From the opening bell to the final chalk scratch on "Etched Together," this is our most collaborative joint yet. We recorded actual students shouting answers back at us, worked with three different Scholar Crews from the Eastside, and even let the crowd move rhyme tiles on the Cipherboard during live takes.
