Bubblegum Buddha from Deuseaville by Cinque Ports
Bubblegum Buddha sounds like Dave Brubeck’s Take Five if it was recorded under water, AND with lyrics that effortlessly reference Chick Corea, Hungary losing the 1954 World Cup and an obscure, Slavonic cabaret troupe that played Margate’s Winter Gardens back in the 1920’s. Added to this, Bubblegum Buddha finishes by quixotically tilting out of its laid back jazz tempo into a full-on, furious, fuzz-drenched assault, not entirely unlike the end bit of Talking Heads’ Psycho Killer. Qu'est-ce que c’est, indeed.
