Amaterasu is the sun goddess, ruler of the High Celestial Plain, the domain of the kami or spirits. Amaterasu is the Queen of Heaven, the kami, and creation itself. Though she did not create the universe, she is the goddess of creation. She maintains harmony and balance in both the natural world and human society.
