Charmaine Lee’s debut release, Ggggg, is an explosive sampler of improvised solo vocal music. Embracing a heuristic approach, Lee skillfully navigates the vast range of musical possibilities that stem from a single-minded commitment to creation. Each track presents a new perspective on the potency and limitations of the human breath -- taken together, they form a cohesive self-portrait. Throughout, Lee effortlessly oscillates between a manic vocal quality akin to harsh noise and drone, and the sensual, spine-tingling intimacies of a closely mic-ed mouth, all the while welcoming the uncanny humor of the human voice in a style uniquely her own.

Charmaine Lee is an improvising vocalist from Sydney, Australia. Collaborators and associations include Nate Wooley, Joe Morris, Conrad Tao, Zach Rowden, Lester St. Louis, and Leila Bordreuil. She has performed at venues such as Roulette, ISSUE Project Room, the Stone, the Met Breuer, and Experimental Sound Studios (Chicago). Charmaine currently resides in New York.
