I walk through the tall grass back to that place, sun berates my skin, I wish I could just stop this.
My mind races, fears stretch across the horizon as I think of those who will be there.
Why must I kneel in my grave whilst being a living being, tears and dirt from the ones close to me will rain upon my head. My life is over now.

I pray for forgiveness, knowing I’m already in purgatory, it’s my fault for it all. Can a dead man still pray?
I don my mask, that requited outfit, carrying a silver bell high above my head, they shall hear me and stay away.
They will never see me, no one should ever see me, besides you.

Years go by like grains through my hands but my shame remains, no matter how I pray, no matter I live. I remember how the dew felt on the grass, I remember holding you as you cried in my arms, i reminisce about the little bugs and creatures of the field crawling up onto my legs.

I still wonder, I think of koans I know by heart

As my soul drifts I am pulled back, I see that sword in front of me again, it’s going to start again. I pull this useless mass that I have become, towards it, bell gently ringing, nothing seems to work anymore. Using the final fragments of my strength I lay the sword on the ground, one side of the blade in the earth the other in the sky. I place my hands upon the blade and drive it deeper into the soft damp ground. My gloves turn a sickly black as the blood drains. I position my body such that my neck rests upon the blade, and I wait.
I hear the sound as you finally awake, no voice just heavy breathing just as if you were still asleep. The footsteps near and I feel that boot gently placed upon my head. Already I know how you feel, it feels like all the love you showed to me, and the pain from the distance. Slowly stones begin to fall from the sky’s above, seemingly god knows I am over with this cycle. The last thing I remember is feeling the rain from your face, warm and heartfelt as you finally shifted the weight upon my head and started again.
