Breaking Light
"So Breaking Light was probably the first song that was written from this selection. It originally started life as a demo, recorded in a caravan while on holiday in Pagham, UK (I think). My wife and kids went out somewhere, and I ended up staying behind at the caravan, where I ended up recording the ukulele parts and a vocal guide. It all came together quite quickly. It wasn't until 2 years later, I decided to dig out the demo and put a bit more to it."

Pass The Time
"Now, I've had the melody to this track for years and when I decided to start writing and recording again, I knew I had to work on this. The trouble is, I wrote the guitar part to Pass The Time way, way back in the early 2010s and to make matters worse, it was written in open guitar tuning and I wasn't sure which one. Eventually, I worked out that it was in open-c and I set about re-recording the guitar part and adding lyrics to it. The approach I was going for here was Nick Drake meets Massive Attack."

Do Things Better
"After rediscovering the open-c tuning while recording Pass The Time, I found myself quickly writing another little melody, which turned into Do Things Better. Wanted a lo-fi feel to this one. I had originally recorded a demo of the track on my phone and after several attempts at re-recording the guitar part, I realised that the original demo had a rough charm to it, that I really liked. So that became the foundation of this recording. I ended up re-recording just the vocals, and then added some backing vocals and electric guitar."

Hey You
"This track was written back in 2021 I think, during that weird time when the pandemic was still lingering and the world was opening up, but still unsure of itself. I recall my daughter have a tantrum, and afterwards I picked up a guitar and came up with this waltz-like melody and the lyric "hey you, it's time to settle down", so from that, it became this song of support. And then on my birthday, back in 2023, I sat down and recorded this rendition of it... It's been sitting on my hard drive since then!"
