I felt the
Fire of the bomb in Beirut like the devil's tongue
Watched the ones in Gaza fly as people tore up Ferguson
Listened to my father lose his mind in the U.S.A.
Better place to raise the kids, that's what the colonized would say
In NYC I noticed that my lovers felt his isolation
Skyscrapers inspired me to rise above a nation
Outside, the house was broken, so I built a home within me
Thought I needed refuge so I went and built myself a city

تخيل الله
إلهام الله
خلق الله
كن واحداً مع الله

إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ‎
إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ‎

When the sun touches desert sand
I drink the oasis, drink it out of my hand

And when the heat's too much to bear
I hold the oasis, hold water lighter than air

And when all dripping words are damned
I hear the oasis, hear it deep in the sand

And when the world seems harsh and bare
I find the oasis, an ocean for us to share

إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ‎
إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ‎

I feel the
Heat of a California summer outside
And I know, in my heart, that there's nowhere left to hide
That's why I built a city in my mind
It's a broken place, but it's broken by design
A kaleidoscope of places I had dared to call my home
Sacred with the love of people I had known
An eternal city with a crisis every century
Gives me the walls to draw strength from ancient memory
