Wasteland was the last track that we completed for BRAVE NEW WORLD. The song was back and forth as far as inclusion on to the album, it had its place on the running order/storyline and made sense, but when DISTANT LAND became the longer epic that it became, decisions for running time had to be made. The hard decision was that Wasteland would take the hit to make room. This allowed for the breathing and extension of Distant Land and Line of Sight. So it gave its life so other songs could stretch and be the songs they needed to be.
The track was written on bass guitar, inspired by the late John Wetton.
Patric wrote the basic tracks, and then Kenny wrote all of the lyrics and all of the vocal melodies. David added guitar, and once he did the song became a favorite of ours. David's guitars had flavors of The Beatles along with very Fripp-like texturing. The combination of those ingredients gave the song an accessible but still other-worldly feel.
The song ends with the tension of the unknown building until it hits a mark.
