Woodgrain Ocean by Brother Venus

“Woodgrain Ocean”, is the debut album from Bozeman area alternative rock band Brother Venus. It is composed of 11 tracks and has a run time of around 55 minutes. The album incorporates many styles and moods, as well as balancing progressive elements with pop sensibilities. Brother Venus consists of lead vocalist Cody Lindblom; guitarist and backing vocalist Kurt Binder; bassist Ellior Decker; and drummer Clayton Damjanovich. However, Decker and Damjanovich joined the band after the recording of, “Woodgrain Ocean.” Due to unforeseen circumstances with previous members exiting the band prior to recording, all of the guitars, bass and drums were handled by Binder. Montana State University Professor of Percussion, Stephen Versaevel, makes several appearances throughout the album performing auxiliary percussion alongside Binder. The album was recorded by Lindblom and Binder at Dioskouri Studios located in Belgrade, MT. The duo worked studiously to avoid the “copy and paste” sound featured on so many albums today.
