Rubine by Brady Matteson
Rubine is an abstract collision of the human experience and a world unknown, projected outward and reflected inward through the subjective lens of its listener. Composed by Brady Matteson of Vanity Contest, this record is a bold and daring effort that isn’t afraid to take its time developing.
Seemingly still from the outside, Rubine's synth-driven textures slowly evolve through slick and careful orchestration. Timbres weave in and out as grooves assemble themselves in present time through color changes, rhythmic arrangements and the dynamic saturation and resolution of his musical phrases. Like past works by Matteson, it carries with it the very extremes of the emotional spectrum, fleshed out through sound and intention.
This is electronic minimalism at its very best-and whether its intention is as so, one cannot help but truly meditate upon the inner workings of the mind and soul when experiencing this record.
