Oort by Bradfield Dumpleton
These pieces have mostly been sculpted from some old recordings I made once with my son Cooper, sampling the resonance of piano strings as they were stroked and plucked.
Almost every sound on the album has been sourced from these piano samples, including some rhythmic elements using incidental clunks, scrapes and thuds from the original recording. The drone textures on track 3 were made from a recording of my electric jug boiling while running a bath in the next room.
As these pieces evolved, I became drawn to the idea of the vaster resonances in deep space, in particular the outermost edges of our solar system, as described by the Kuiper Belt and the Oort Cloud. The sounds here imagine space as profoundly impersonal and claustrophobic.
