Table Music from Westerfjord by Colin Campbell and the Bracadale Collective

A story of the burn (stream) that comes down from Macleod's Tables, two iconic flat-topped hills named for the ingenious way in which a Macleod chief once saved face before the king. The burn in the song is a metaphor for all the people who have come and gone from the area. Tying in with the flow of people, I used the protein sequence of haemoglobin (the protein that carries oxygen in red blood cells) to make the sound used at the beginning and end.

I'm a scientist and musician making music at the interface between indie and Scottish traditional music. My album Westerfjord is a love letter to Loch Bracadale and melds diverse influences from indie guitars to the classical music of the bagpipes and blends them with in-situ field recording, archival sound and scientific data.
