Density by Bongani Givethanks

What began as an idea between 2021 and 2022 slowly transformed over time. I kept coming back to it; layering, revisiting, deconstructing, and rebuilding it until it finally became what it is now.

When I finished it, I realized something unexpected: the song had quietly become a reflection of my internal world.

I am constantly trying to understand the architecture of my mind. My mind doesn’t move in straight lines. It moves in textures, overlaps, interwoven patterns. Without planning to, I ended up composing a piece that mirrors that experience.

The track is built on interlocking melodies, dense textures, call-and-response elements, and shifting synth layers that coexist without clashing. There’s constant movement, ideas speaking to one another, interrupting, responding, creating space, then coming together. At first listen, it may feel full and expansive, but if you sit with it, its logic reveals itself.

This song is an embodiment of how a layered mind can create beauty through multiplicity. What can sometimes feel like “too much” becomes something intentional and alive.

In many ways, the production process reflects my broader philosophy which is interlocking systems, dialogue, improvisation, and coexistence as the foundation of sound.

The artwork comes from a piece of paper I’ve been doodling on during calls over the past two weeks. Doodling helps me regulate my thoughts. I took that paper and turned it into a collage for the sleeve. It felt honest. It felt connected to the music.
