Vital Blue by Blue Mitchell
Blue Mitchell recorded Vital Blue in the early 70's but I love that he is still embracing the 60's while elevating them with some 70's sounds. It's funky but stays away from the fusion that was exploding at this time. Mitchell's playing is extraordinary as he seamlessly explores the jazz genre from bebop to spiritual on this album.

If you don't know Blue Mitchell, you're in for a funky, soulful ride. A hard bop trumpet player who toured with Ray Charles, Lena Horne, George Benson,Tony Bennett, etc. He was on of the most melodic players of his generation, taken too soon by cancer at the age of 49.
