Lyrics
Gold coat on a Labrador, eyes wide
Roughly the same age as I
Old soul in my memories, laying under the evergreens
Fenced in, murmuring with the cottonwood trees
Leash locking, barks but no knocking
Sock threads in his barf, arf arf for talking
Lapping 'round the pool table, nails scraping new tile plates
Most of the image that I lost are stuck in Hi-8's
Never fly straight, chased down the neighborhood
Tangled through the trees, bagging feces for the greater good
Honing on a Milk-Bone as we try to get him in the house
Never knew a boundary, always shouting "Rocko, roust!"
Mommy housed him, Daddy working through disorders
Was always a fun morning when we took him to the boarders
Rocko traded hands when we moved further north
Smile straining through the face droop but always a good sport
Started seeing him as a nuisance, looking back, my heart is bruising
Foresight was foggy didn't know what I'd be losing
Aging in a cage, our new place refuses pets
Asking if I want to see him, guilt creeping in and yet
Didn't know how to say goodbye, knowing he's seen brighter days
Dad texted bluntly, said, "Went to put him down today."
We keep his ashes by the fireplace
Last month we all decided to play some Rummikub
Golden hair in the box turned it into Guess Who?
