Crooner by Beev Rations

With six tunes (four new plus two recent singles) encompassing indie folk, psychedelic rock, americana (both rooted and cosmic) and doo-wop, through the common thread of the crooning voice of Alan James, arrives the seventh EP from Beev Rations, precisely tittled Crooner.
To enjoy it more, sometimes you'll want to pop up the volume and sometimes, pretty relaxed, you'll prefer to keep it quieter to slide yourself deep in your daydream. This album, feauturing another twist in the band career and incoporing remarkable vocal and instrumental novelties, blends as always a current alternative and eclectic approach with the rooted, pure style of the precursor genres of rock. All of this gives birth a classical sounding, therefor always new, present-day and equally alien to the alienating (suitable pun) tendencies and fashions imposed by the musical industry, one of the global entertaining lobby arms.
As for the lyrics and themes, the oniric Jelly Realities is about the relative nature of our perception of life and things, furthermore when strong desires or passion are involved. Processing the loss of an old epic love is dealt with in both Who Cares? (jazzy, very evocative) and Mead Feelings (intense country tingued doo-wop), two tremendous ballads, new anthems for the spanish band. The swinging Official Fake News (an alternate version of the homonymous single) shows the manipulation and mind programming through mass media with raw and sharp honesty. While the ambiental and relaxing Monolog, together with the playful and dreamy Little Prince Inside, tell about our self-trust, assertiveness and trueness, as pure conciousness and multidimensional beings.
Alan James, a true DIY musical artist doing bedroom pop-rock in his own bedroom, shows a marked side as a crooner since the very start of Beev Rations, with songs like The One I Love (2016), Good Wood (2017) or Mystic Lover (2018) to quote only some early examples. So now in Crooner this appears exalted and sparkled as never before.
Like in previous releases since 2020, the instrumental tracks were crafted by Alan James (also always the composer, writer, producer, mixer and masterizer of the BR songs) from high level loops recorded by first class session musicians. And for the first time, vocal armonies loops were also added. Selected, edited and properly ensambled by Alan himself, those are the dazzling 3 voices chorus in Jelly Realities and Mead Feelings. As curiosities, Alan joined the "celestial rock" chorus than can be heard in Jelly Realities, while in the first half of the song were used vocal and acustic guitar (played by Alan himself) tracks from the Melted Love demo (2017), where the author croons the hell of it.
By the way, crooner is a term used to describe mainly solo singers who perform with a smooth style, made possible -in the beguinning- by better microphones which picked up quieter sounds and a wider range of frequencies, allowing the singer to utilize that more dynamic range and perform in a more intimate manner. It is derived from the old verb "to croon", denoting a soft and murmuring way of singing, without projecting the voice (which is the more prudent thing when you record yourself in a bedroom with people and neighbourgs all around).
Instead, it's the soul and inner glow what it's here projected, openly and without concessions, creating a multilevel experience for the prepared ears, hearts and minds of those listeners, mature (or natural) enough to tune in with the high frequencies coming from Crooner.
