She was born into a poem
That was started long ago
You can hear the tears of a thousand years
In the wind from there when it blows
In the dust of the Swat Valley
The place she held so dear
She loved it with all her life
She loved it without fear

The future was written in your eyes

She was raised to be a leader
Wisdom past her years
She thought girls should be allowed to learn
But the Taliban had other ideas
They shot her on a school bus
put a bullet in her brain
but her poem wasn’t finished
and her Phoenix rose again

Your thoughts will never die will never die
With the best of Doctors care
they gave all they had to give
she recovered even braver, more aware
for a bullet cannot kill an idea that was always born to live.
Girls will go to school
and the future testify
That you cannot kill a poem that will never, that will never die.
