Mwanangu is Shona for my child and the song tells the tale of two mothers. One who has wronged her child and appeals for forgiveness based on her parenthood and the other with a child in the diaspora who for whatever reason on her child's part (selfishness, disenfranchisement, sheer inability etc) is not taking care of her.
The original, produced by South Africa’s VeneiGrette, is “an ultra-tight, soulful-house zenith with a rousing vein of afro-beat energy aiding its spellbinding rhythms” says the12block.com. Add to that remixes by XtetiQsoul, Enoo Napa, Rune, PM Project, Kenya’s SURAJ, Botswana’s Benny T and you have a powerful pan-African package that's become a favourite for many afro-house lovers.
