Lyrics
Verse 1
A lot of things have changed, that’s life, it is
Just learn to rearrange within this life you live
We’re all going through phases, this life is a trip
Friends turn to strangers, but love and light still exist
As I’m flipping through the pages, I sit and reminisce
I remember back in the days when we were pretty much just kids
From rapping in the basement, I’d have a mic in my fist
To playing main stages, I’d have fans reciting my shit
I’ve played the nation with too many places to list
All the faces that I’ve met, that have taken time to listen
It ain’t nothing but praise and respect that I give
I prayed for this, I’m grateful — this life is a gift
I’ve made it out the maze, but I’m still stuck in the matrix
My kids think that I’m famous, but daddy isn’t rich
They think that I’ve made it, so the sacrifices I make
To put food in the fridge gives me a reason to live

If you want to see the change, then you gotta be the change
If you want to see the change, then you gotta be the change
If you want to see the change, then you gotta be the change
You gotta rearrange the way you look at things

Verse 2
Change got me fucked up, I’m contemplating rage
This 9 to 5 got me stuck like a rat in a cage
“Stop complaining, suck it up, just be a man,” they say
Stay calm, take a breath, then I burn up the sage
Where would I be without change? I wouldn’t be me without change
I’m still knee-deep in the pain, we need to see some change
It’s the reason that I bleed on the pages
From the trees to the grave, each day I’m grateful to wake up
I’m breaking generational curses that have made us hate
While in a system that was built to break us
I’ve about taken all that I can take
From these pay stubs that don’t pay enough
Even though my back aches, wait — I’ve got a family on my back
Do you know how much that weighs
When the cost of living doesn’t match the wage?
It feels like a lost cause — is it too much for me to ask for change?

Verse 3
We need change, we really need it
Turn off the TV, revolution is in 3-D
It’s in the streets, you can go outside and see it
With your own two eyes, or you could go and be it
We want change, we really want it
I put it into a sonnet, hope someone stumbles upon it
I made a promise to my mama before she was gone
That I would get put on, so to be honest I gotta honor it
So I put it into a song about change
Now that I’ve grown into a man of my own
And I’ve shown that you can overcome
Anything that life throws
I’ve been thrown down, I came back twice strong
Now I right my wrongs and I recite my songs
With my mic in palm, I write my poems
A righteous form, a message for those
Who feel like they might be in this fight alone
Life goes on.
