Castle is about the Denial Stage of grief. Sometimes when one is mourning a loved one, they want to deny their loss, keep memories close, and hold onto them forever. The lyrical theme of a castle in this song is reminiscent of building a fortress to protect what you hold dear and not wanting to let go, though the castle is already in ruins. There is beauty in the remnants, however, as even though the castle is no longer what it used to be, the memory of its beauty still remains.
