About Time by Age of Fiction

We are faced with a time that is connected to other times, once written about in history books and in accounts told by survivors of hardship and oppression, and yet we are simultaneously writing this story we are in. It is far from over. This duality is part of our consciousness as we created this album, a work that expresses our experiences, our worst fears, and our greatest hopes. At the beginning is a slow dance, a moment to calm those you love and hold them near, because we need that too. At the heart of it all is a sense of urgency, a cognitive dissonance that underpins all moments existing at this time. As black holes of compromise have opened within pockets of humankind seeding cruelty, destruction and genocide, we find that compromising our ideals only serves an expanding nothingness, which threatens to swallow us all. Illuminating the darkness and exposing it to the light and truth can save us, but time is not ours to keep. It is past due, overdue, alarm bells blaring... It is this alert that seems to beat within us all that had us writing into the night in the making of this double album. We found ourselves churning out songs from 15 minute improv sessions that struck us so deeply as to imprint us upon these tracks that would each take months of disciplined work to learn, hone and synthesize. Performing the creations from this album has been cathartic for us and for audiences. People have come up to tell us they feel the channeling effect of the sound and especially the release in these works strikes them. The lyrics came about through an improv method that involves sounds and sometimes improvised words or parts of words that are later interpreted by Holly to arrive at their final language. The open or closed sounds, fricatives, and consonants are all instruments chosen in the moment to be placed according to the atmosphere being expressed. This album was named for the song “About Time” which is both a reflection of the horrors people commit upon their fellow humans and of the misguided ideas within that evil. We knew it held the impetus and meaning of this body of work within it when it came about. Many of the tracks already had lyrics which had been discussing the element of time and both the ways that it is and seems. We know from raising children that the “longest, shortest time” is one in which there is great hope and great hardship simultaneously. This experience creates a time anomaly of relativity that is most disorienting and has similarities to the experience of being a truth seeker who cares for humanity in the year 2025. As artists, we know what we want to build takes time, and we can waste none. Laugh at pathetic dictators! Point at clowning tyrants! And carve out the ugliest pain and hate into something beautiful. You’ll find yourselves in good company. X
