Te Hapu by Antony Milton

The video and soundtrack were recorded during a holiday with extended family at a place called Te Hapu at Mangarākau at the very top of West Coast of the South Island (of New Zealand).
Only some of the tracks appear in the film itself.
Much of my work has been an exploration of landscape- particular times at particular places. The film 'Te Hapu' is an eg of such a work but also an attempt to explore my own compulsion to explore such themes. A reflection on my working methods as well as the inherent narcissism and wilful isolationism of at least my own artistic sensibility. People- family- are kept at a safe distance.
The soundtrack itself has a couple of noisier songs and at least one extended white noise and drone track but is predominantly gentle and ambient in nature.

Credits
All tracks recorded at Te Hapu, Mangarākau at the top of the South Island except track 10 which was recorded in Wellington for another short (incomplete and unreleased) documentary on caving that was filmed at the same time as Te Hapu.
