Paperweight from Insomniac by Brandon Brooks
This was actually the first track I worked on for February Album Writing Month, but I didn't finish it until a few days in. I felt like I didn't want to go right out of the gate with such a downer of a tune, so that's why it ends up on the darker half of the album.
This song also started all the themes whether I knew it or not. In January of 2024 I went to a sleep clinic for my insomnia, and this song is about that feeling of isolation and just staying up all night and being able to be bowled over by anything in the morning.
This song was another lesson for me to let go. The song kind of just ends, and while there's a part of me that wishes I could have made a bridge or an outro, my goal was to not get hung up on anything. So yeah. It just...kind of ends. Which I guess in the context of this half of the album makes some sort of sense.
