Blink from Insomniac by Brandon Brooks
The instrumental for this track began...months ago? Maybe even in 2022? It was an homage to Blink-182, but like...with none of the instruments that make a Blink-182 song. No guitar, no real drums, no whiney voice (in a Blink way, my voice is certainly whiney). I just left it to gather dust, there was no real interest that I had in developing it further.
During FAWM, however, I saw it for what it was: an homage to nostalgia and music from our youth. I'm not even a huge fan of Blink-182, but here we are, and I'm pleased with the lyrics and vocals. I felt like I needed some more musically upbeat songs because I knew I would eventually be trudging through sadness, because that's just how I roll.
It's bittersweet, it's nostalgic, and it's also as honest as I can get while still being subjective; music is important because of it's relationship to us and the context we heard it moreso than the actual content. Anyways, it's kinda catchy I guess. This would be the first and last time I intentionally used a previous idea for the project, and I still feel a little bad about it. Ah well!
