Sticks by Anthony Ruptak
These are the contents of the first page of Anthony's old song book. It was written in the biting cold of winter in a dirt parking lot somewhere in Colorado's eastern plains. Ruptak, eighteen years old, working construction a year after moving out of his parent's home, wide-eyed and angry yet invigorated in his solitude, relates with a simple pile of sticks in the mud.
Seven years later, Ruptak and friends join forces with Denver legends Joe Richmond and Nate Meese to concoct what is, in Anthony's opinion, his greatest recorded work to-date. This is but a taste of the cacophony that is to come.

If instead my body were a pile of sticks
Would I then condemn the one who scavenged and picked
for setting me to burn?
In this regard, should I respect
the one who collects up bones and blood
and fashions them into men
Is he the one my father
Is he the one my father threatened to
Is he the one, my father, threatened to a fiery burning death?
If I wrote a letter to the men in charge
would I listen for a ring?
If all the graves of all the great proclaimers
opened up and they all spoke to us would we hear their voices sing
a morbid tale?
Or would it be a warning?
I'd like to think they'd have nothing to say at all
