Dark Visitor by Another Neglected Hobby

Dark Visitor is a collection of tracks created while simultaneously writing an alien invasion novel by the same name.

The novel is still in progress, but its development has been greatly spurred by using these tracks to capture the mood of scenes in the book and re-listening those tracks to stimulate my imagination as I write.

Old Crow Fever - Teddy, the novel’s protagonist is a middle-aged male alcoholic whose life centers around his meager job in a small town cafe, where he landed after his previously normal life crashed in a series of events he refers to as The Slide. His whiskey of choice, Old Crow, has become the center of his existence until the arrival of the dark but sometimes barely visible saucer shape that hangs in the sky above the Hendricks place, an abandoned farm just outside town.

Blacker Than Black - The saucer shape hanging there in the sky outside the window of the cafe’s second floor storeroom that serves as Teddy’s sleeping quarters is invisible during the day, but is blacker than black against the night sky.

Closing Time - Teddy and his co-worker Katie have bonded over shared cigarettes during break time and decide to investigate the saucer shape over the Hendricks farm after the cafe’s closing time.

Ride Along - After a series of unusual events, Teddy gets to know the local State Trooper who invites him to ride along to the Hendricks farm to take a closer look at things.

Marie Walks In - Shortly after the saucer appears a mysterious and spell-binding woman walks into the cafe and things begin to change.

Entropy - The normal laws of thermodynamics don’t seem to apply to those affected by the arrival of the saucer.

The Visit - Teddy’s life takes a strange turn when he receives a midnight visit from Marie.

Night Creeper - Teddy’s late night investigation of an abandoned storefront is interrupted by a State Trooper.

Smoke Break - Teddy and Katie’s favorite time of the work day and when they share their discoveries with each other.
