Lyrics
"California Heat"
I'm not ready to write a song about you
So I'll write about your bench
On Robert Dollar hiking trail
How I wound the roads of Santa Rafael
Without water and forgetting
The California heat when the fog is still at Bay
I'll write about the dust
Kicking clouds around my face
And the manzanita trees
Grown scrubby in the drought
How I whispered to the radio tower
"I'll trade my breath for an easy way out"
But the California heat pushed its weight on me
Then the bench came into view
And a fox did too
He hopped the path in front of me
He hid behind a cottonwood tree
So I started making plans for fending off
And attack that never came
An opportunity for rage
The California heat when the fog is still at Bay
I wish you weren't dead
But it is that way
But I didn't feel you
It was just a bench with a beautiful view
