We save up all our food scraps
Then we put them in a green bag

We bring it outside
To a bucket that we fill
And then a truck comes by

Once a week they pick it up
Our food and yard waste
The compost that we save
Gets taken to the dump

Where there is a special place
Where compost can biodegrade
But it can’t just sit there
Someone’s gotta

Turn it and mix it
Turn it and mix it

But there are other ways, and one of them’s my fave
It’s called vermiculture and it’s composting with worms
The worms eat your scraps and leave behind castings
Why call them castings? Does poop make you squirm

You can steep the worm poop
And turn it to a tea
No it’s not that kind of tea
You don’t serve it with biscuits

You feed it to your garden
To help your plants grow
Then take it to the chorus
Like we did so long ago
