Having owned the Gretsch baritone for some years, I was slightly frustrated as it was neither bass nor guitar but something different. It was not without its merits but didn't quite do what I had in mind for it. So a natural progression from the baritone had to be a 6 string bass, it made sense.

I think in an alternate universe I would make quite an adequate bass player. I have to work at the guitar, it doesn't come naturally to me. But the bass in some way makes more sense. Nothing flashy, no twiddling or complex scales, just solid thumps, lumps and chunks.

This is a great instrument, the 6 industrial cable thick strings as opposed to the 4 of a standard bass have been no obstacle for me. It's half guitar, half bass and sounds immense. In an ideal world I would plug this throbbing mammoth into a dozen huge amps. I think it could knock down skyscrapers given the opportunity.

Me and this machine have an affinity, we're both ugly, a bit too heavy and have a flabby bottom.
