I'd been listening to Djent for some time and thought it was about time I got into extended range guitars. The 8 string is associated with Jazz and Metal, but I got to thinking, what else can one do with 8 strings? I struggle with 6, so what complexities would a further 2 strings bring my way?

It was a breath of fresh air. I threw out the idea of playing it in any conventional manner and started to tune it in an intuitive way. The 8 string revolutionised my guitar world.

Although the neck is like an ironing board, the guitar is surprisingly easy to play. I replaced the stock strings with extra heavy gauge immediately and have not really put the guitar down since. It is an incredibly enjoyable creative tool that I couldn't live without.
