I bought this guitar, my first ever bass, in the early 2000's in Brighton.

For years I had tried to make a guitar sound like a bass using octave pedals and detuning. But I could never get the guitar to sound like a bass, you need a real bass. So I relented and picked this one up, an expense which I could ill afford at the time, but getting the sound I wanted mattered to me more than the mere triviality of being broke.

The Thunderbird shape always appealed to me because Pete Way from UFO always used one. A man who epitomised rock and roll excess and, although not the best player, was probably the most charismatic bassist of all time.
