The window in my parlour
Shines on my favourite chair
I sit and watch the season
Turn as white as my hair.

So many years older
A frosty pallor has touched my skin.
But I am a sapling
Inside a giant evergreen.

Evergreen. Evergreen.
Even in my winter years
I will be evergreen.

My brow has been moulded
With fear, and wonder and doubt
But I’ve softened at the edges
My laugh lines spread out

The voices of my youth
still sing, sing with the river so clear
The river and I are everlasting.
We’re both headed elsewhere
But we’ll always be here.
