FIRST ORE by Andra Kalle

First Ore is a seminal expose of Andra Kalle's solo exploration into the potential use of breath with digital accompaniments.

Improvised and spontaneous, Andra Kalle's aim is to share the creative process of working with a unique combination of tools for generating sounds, expressions, and moods. Like the title of the album, First Ore, this is the first released musical recording of Andra Kalle, the first substantial thing he "struck" using these tools.

The sounds are generated with a traditional Chinese wooden flute, known as a Xiao, paired with two guitar pedals for effects. The pedals used were a Boss DD6 Digital Delay and a Boss SY-1 Snythesizer. A pair of SM-81 condenser microphones were used for recording.

The tracks totalling 19:08 are parts of a continuous, single take recording which was initially 22:16 long. All of the sounds/effects were played and recorded live along with the flute playing, with slight additions of reverb and mixing of each track in post.

Andra Kalle is a Stockholm-based musician working with improvisational and experimental musical performances with the use of flutes, drums, and electronics. He was previously part of Voodoo You Do and is a current member of Alpha Xiao.
