If there were some sort of adjustment possible, some kind of control device capable of diminishing the intensity, the temptation to turn it down would be difficult to resist. Resistance is an expression of denial whereby one may postpone some part of the experience until another time. It would be a relief to lessen the levels down to something nearly imperceptible. Indeed, there is an argument to shut them down completely, to turn the dial to its utmost infinity of negation. What would it be like to experience nothing? All these signals bombard the senses and perceptions so ceaselessly that it is almost impossible to conceive of any state where the inputs would measure null. Silence, darkness, all vibrations stemmed and muted into nothing, this is something to ponder and for which to yearn. It is no more than a little death or merely a vacation, a moment to step away and simply cease for a time.
