raised in gardens of salt
the ghosts that take residence
in your endless maze of a heart
singing songs i'd forgotten
singing words i disowned
painting portraits of nothing
god forsaken so god damn alone
old man of the river old man of the sea
ask him no questions mans not made for defeat
you were fighting with someone
down some crooked hall
no answers to these questions
no light to break up this dark
i've never been certain of no one
never convinced of a truth
live in the vagueness of a moment
we have everything to spend and lose
you were born of the thunder
rumbling mid-summer storm
consequence of happenstance
life and death through the same door
you were looking for something
to fill an imagined hole in your chest
we're not made to be finished works
we're rough sketches at best
